The Basics of Wedding Gown Styles

Knowledge on wedding gown fabrics will provide you a better idea of what dress to choose or what design to create. Often, in our overwhelming choices, we confuse a material from another and a style we find in shops from the ones we have already set our decisions on.

In this article, we will view some of the most popular wedding gown styles, which expand to trains, lengths and necklines. Please remember that while all of these would be an option for you, it would be best to trim down your choices into several designs so you can make a sound decision when choosing a wedding gown.

Trains
§ Sweep train or a train that barely touches the ground.

§ Court train displays a train that extends one foot longer than the sweep train.

§ Chapel train is the well-favored type among most brides. This is characterized by an extension of three to four feet beyond the gown.

§ Semi-cathedral train is somewhat like the chapel train, only longer with four to six feet in extension.

§ Cathedral train or betterly known as monarch train is typically used in the most formal weddings. The length varies from six to eight feet behind the gown.

§ Royal Cathedral train is the train for which Princess Diana of Wales was known. This extends for more than 10 feet behind the gown and is also known as the Traditional Royal Train.

§ Watteau Train is the train that is different in style among all that we have mentioned here. This is characterized by the attachment on the shoulder blades from which the train begins.

Lengths
§ Street Length is characterized with a hem that flows just below the knees.

§ Intermission length has a hem that covers the section between the knees and the ankles.

§ Floor length features a hem that slightly touches the floor from the front side to the back.

§ Hi-Low Length is a wedding gown that has an intermission length for the front and floor or slightly longer length for the back part of the hem.

Necklines
§ Sweetheart Neckline is one of the more popular types of neckline that you will find in the industry. It features the shape of the topside of the heart that provides a graceful illusion.

§ Queen Anne Neckline is characterized by a high rising collar that extends at the back of the neck that sculpts the chest outline open.

§ Bateau or Boat Neckline is a type that gives dramatic effect on the collarbone by outlining it. This line then flows down softly at the sides, which finalizes at the shoulder seams.

§ Contessa Neckline is an off the shoulder cut that attaches the sleeves to roughly 3 inches below the shoulder. This then will be concluded with a line across the chest and arms.

§ Halter Neckline has a high choke neckline that usually uses a deep sleeveless gown

§ Portrait Neckline has a shawl-like collar that serves as a wrapping for the shoulders.

§ Sabrina Neckline is normally featured with a rather high scoop neck.

§ Square Neckline has an open yoke half-square like figure for the neckline.

§ Tank Top Bodice features a scoop neck matched with perfectly for sleeveless gowns.

§ V-Neck line has a 'V' shape open yoke that flows halfway down the gown's bodice.

§ Keyhole back or open sweetheart back yoke is a neckline that feature a heart shaped opening which is frequently trimmed with bead designs.

When choosing for a specific style, any combinations of three essential components will do. However, some mixes of motif will suit you better than others.
